The Arkansas Tech University-Ozark Campus practical nursing program is ranked among the top five such programs in the State of Arkansas by PracticalNursing.Org.

ATU-Ozark is listed in the publication’s 2024 Best LPN Programs in Arkansas. PracticalNursing.org reviews National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN) exam first-time pass rates to determine its rankings.

The NCLEX-PN exam is used by state boards of nursing for testing proficiency and granting licensure. Many state boards of nursing use the combined NCLEX-PN exam pass rates for each school as one of the primary ways to approve or deny a school’s ability to provide practical and vocational nursing education.

ATU-Ozark accepts students in the practical nursing program in August and January each year. The curriculum centers on holistic patient care and takes physical, emotional, spiritual and social well-being into account. Students have options to continue their education in the nursing field as they can transition from the practical nursing program to the registered nursing program at ATU-Ozark. The first-time pass rate among ATU-Ozark practical nursing students for 2022-2023 was 100 percent.

“ATU-Ozark’s practical nursing program is an exemplary program,” said Dr. Sheila Jacobs, interim chancellor and chief academic officer at ATU-Ozark Campus. “The program’s success affirms ATU-Ozark’s commitment to contributing to the pipeline of skilled health care professionals who not only meet but surpass the highest standards in the field. The student success rate is a testament to the leadership of Blaine Snyder, practical nursing program chair, the dedication of our faculty, the diligence of our students and a pursuit of excellence in health care education.”

In Russellville, the ATU Department of Nursing offers a transition for licensed practical nurses to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program. Instruction is provided through classroom, skills and simulation laboratory work as well as clinical assignments in various health care facilities.

Upon completion of degree requirements for the LPN-BSN, students are eligible to sit for the national examination (NCLEX-RN) for licensure. The program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
