ATU Jazz Ensemble Offers Concert Friday Night

Witherspoon Hall is home to the Arkansas Tech University Department of Music.

The Arkansas Tech University Jazz Ensemble will perform at ATU’s Witherspoon Auditorium on Friday, Sept. 27.

The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. Admission will be free and open to the public.

Pieces scheduled for first half of the performance include “Birdland” by Josef Zawinul as arranged by Nick Lane, “A Warm Breeze” by Sammy Nestico and “Land of Make Believe” by Chuck Mangione and Mark Taylor.

Following an intermission, the ensemble will play “In The Mood” by Joe Garland and Jeff Tyzik, “You Don’t Know What Love Is” by Don Raye, Gene de Paul and Glenn Osser and “Groove Merchant” by Jerome Richardson and Thad Jones.

Members of the ATU Jazz Ensemble scheduled to appear as soloists during the concert are Kris Campbell (trumpet and flugelhorn), Miguel Diaz (drums), Gabe Graff (trombone), Jake Hodges (trumpet), Matt Shirey (alto saxophone), Samuel Spann (tenor saxophone) and Brad Wills (piano).

The ATU Jazz Ensemble is directed by Dr. Sean Reed, ATU professor of music.
