The Arkansas Tech University College of Education and Health has added five partner school districts in northwest Arkansas to its paraprofessional pathway program.

As a result of a collaborative effort between ATU and the Boston Mountain Educational Cooperative, paraprofessionals in the school districts at Elkins, Farmington, Greenland, Lincoln and West Fork now have enhanced access to pursue and complete their Bachelor of Science degrees in elementary education.

“The paraprofessional pathway program provides opportunities for students to complete the elementary education program online while they continue their jobs as paraprofessionals in the school in which they are employed,” said Dr. Tim Carter, dean of the ATU College of Education and Health. “This provides a pathway for paraprofessionals to complete their degrees that did not previously exist. At this time, it is solely for elementary education majors. It does relieve financial burden by allowing students to continue their jobs in a school while completing course requirements including associated field and residency experiences within that school.”
