Slow starts have put Arkansas Tech University in some tough positions during the 2024 football season.

The Wonder Boys have been outscored 38-0 in the first quarters of their last three games, and they have only held the lead after one quarter one time in their first nine games.

As Arkansas Tech prepares to visit Southeastern Oklahoma State University in the penultimate game of the 2024 season on Saturday, Nov. 9, the Wonder Boys are focused on making something positive happen sooner rather than later.

“I think it would be huge if we could score some points early,” said Kyle Shipp, ATU head football coach. “That gives you the momentum you need. If we can get a couple of scores on the board in the first half, I always have faith in our guys in a tight ballgame.”

Kickoff at Paul Laird Field in Durant, Okla., is set for 2 p.m. Saturday.

The Wonder Boys (4-5) will try to snap a three-game losing streak, while the Savage Storm (5-4) will attempt to bounce back from a 56-14 loss at Harding University in its most recent game on Thursday, Oct. 31.

Southeastern Oklahoma State ranks among the Great American Conference leaders in rushing offense (4th, 173.1 yards per game) and rushing defense (3rd, 138.4 yards allowed per game).

Arkansas Tech leans on a defense that ranks No. 3 in the GAC. The Wonder Boys are allowing just 292 yards of total offense per game, which is on pace to be their best total defense figure for a season during the GAC era (2011-present).

Live coverage of the ATU-SOSU game will be available on KCJC 102.3 FM, the EAB Media Group app and www.arkansastechsports.com.
