Representatives from Arkansas Tech University and Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center helped more than 140 nursing students from across Arkansas become certified in Stop the Bleed during the 2024 Arkansas Nurses Association and Arkansas Nursing Students Association combined conference this fall in Jonesboro.
Dr. Shelly Daily, ATU professor of nursing and head of the ATU Department of Nursing, Dr. Cheryl Monfee, ATU professor of nursing, and Tim Tanner, nurse manager and stroke coordinator at Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center, provided the training.
Stop the Bleed is a nationwide campaign to provide civilians with the tools and knowledge to save lives based on Hartford Consensus III recommendations. The stated goal of the initiative is “to build national resilience by empowering the general public to be aware of the simple steps that can be taken to stop or slow life-threatening bleeding.”
All senior-level ATU nursing students receive Stop the Bleed training and the ATU Department of Nursing conducts Stop the Bleed outreach programs in K-12 schools throughout the Arkansas River Valley each semester.
