Nicholas Colburn of Russellville, graduating senior from the Arkansas Tech University U.S. Army ROTC program, was commissioned as a second lieutenant during a ceremony at Doc Bryan Student Services Center Lecture Hall on Saturday, Dec. 14.
Colburn earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree from ATU at the conclusion of the fall 2024 semester. He is commissioning into the Arkansas Army National Guard as an aviation officer. He will attend initial training flight school at Fort Rucker (Ala.) and learn to fly the UH-60 Blackhawk.
After flight training, Colburn will be assigned to the 1st Battalion of the 114th Security and Support Aviation Regiment at Camp Robinson in North Little Rock.
The ATU U.S. Army ROTC program has commissioned more than 800 officers since it was founded in 1952.
