Skot Covert and ATU Upward Bound Students March 2025

Arkansas Tech University alumnus Skot Covert, chief meteorologist at KFSM Channel 5 in northwest Arkansas, returned to his alma mater on Saturday, March 8, to visit with ATU Upward Bound students.

“He spoke about his time at Tech, how he became a meteorologist and different careers in the field of meteorology,” said Jill Hendricks, ATU Upward Bound director. “He also spoke about severe weather and how to prepare, and he brought the Channel 5 Storm Chaser vehicle for our students to view.”

A native of Ozark, Covert holds a Bachelor of Science degree in emergency administration and management from Arkansas Tech. He is a former president of the ATU Alumni Association Board of Directors.

Covert has worked full-time in broadcast television since 2020. After more than four years at KTHV Channel 11 in Little Rock, Covert was promoted to chief meteorologist at sister station KFSM Channel 5 in April 2024.
