One Arkansas Tech freshman is already looking ahead to July. Mikayla Adair will compete this summer at the Miss Arkansas Pageant. Adair was crowned Miss Ozark Highlands earlier this month.
This will be Adair’s first time on the Miss Arkansas stage, and she says she is relying on her experience competing in the Miss Arkansas’ Outstanding Teen Pageant. She adds, “Although the two systems are designed differently, I feel like they are similar enough for me to have somewhat of an idea of what to expect.”
During her reign, Adair says she plans to raise awareness about her critical issue, which is helmet safety for those riding bicycles, motorcycles and ATVs. Adair says she is working to see a helmet law implemented in the state.
For Adair, this issue has close ties to her family. She adds, “I chose it because my dad had a wreck and suffers from brain damage that could have been prevented with a helmet.”
When Adair was crowned Miss Ozark Highlands, she says she “literally cried.” She explains, “It was very unexpected and such an overwhelming realization that I have been given the opportunity to compete at Miss Arkansas.”
Adair will join three other contestants from Arkansas Tech who are competing in the pageant. Miss Arkansas Valley Hannah Williamson, Miss Lake Dardanelle Naomi Shure and Miss Arkansas Tech Lindsey Ahrens will also compete.
