Members of the Arkansas Tech University community have the opportunity to make the holiday season brighter for Arkansas River Valley children in need.
The ATU College Panhellenic Council will host its annual Salvation Army Angel Tree reception from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, in the Caraway Hall lobby.
ATU faculty, staff and students are invited. Those in attendance will have an opportunity to select one or more children they wish to sponsor. Wish lists indicating the gifts each child is hoping for will be available.
This will mark the fourth consecutive year that the ATU College Panhellenic Council has partnered with the Salvation Army location in Russellville for the benefit of the Angel Tree program.
The ATU student-led effort to support the Salvation Army Angel Tree program yielded the sponsorship of 150 children in 2018. The ATU outreach represented approximately 40 percent of the local children who were served by the program last year.
“It’s been very exciting and gratifying to be able to help out,” said Hattie Standridge, an ATU graduate student from Sulphur, Okla., graduate assistant in the ATU Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life and resident director at Caraway Hall. “It was exciting (in 2018) to be able to visit with everyone on campus who was willing to adopt an angel. As the people were bringing in the gifts, they were in awe of how many people we were able to help. We’re truly inspired to continue to help, and hopefully we can use that to reach out to people in the future.”
