The Arkansas Tech University Department of History and Political Science will host Samantha Ashley, curator at the Old State House Museum in Little Rock, for a program entitled “Arkansas Women Making History” on Monday, March 10.

It will begin at 6 p.m. in Ross Pendergraft Library and Technology Center room 300B. Admission will be free and open to the public.

“Samantha will discuss the use of objects and oral histories to tell the story of women in Arkansas as well as the pivotal role women played in saving the Old State House, Arkansas’ original capitol building,” said Dr. Kelly Houston Jones, associate professor of history and graduate program director in the ATU Department of History and Political Science.

Ashley holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Arkansas Tech and a Curatorial Certificate from Sotheby’s Institute of Art. She has served on the Old State House Museum staff for more than eight years and was promoted to curator in 2022.

The March 10 program is part of an observance of Women’s History Month by the ATU College of Arts and Humanities and the ATU Department of History and Political Science.
