ATCC Students attend Manufacturing Day

Arkansas Tech Career Center(ATCC) students were given the opportunity to tour local industries and learn about potential career opportunities in the Arkansas River Valley by attending Manufacturing Day on October 25. The event was organized by the Business & Community Outreach department at Arkansas Tech University-Ozark.

“National Manufacturing Day is a great way to remind educators and industry leaders that we need to bring students into our local industries to see the high tech, high paying jobs which are in demand right now and for the foreseeable future,” said Justin Smith, Chief Business & Community Outreach Officer for Arkansas Tech-Ozark. “Great careers can be made at industries right in our backyard, and it just takes gaining the students’ interest, followed up with the proper training to build a pipeline of future workers to sustain local companies and the economy.”

Twelve ATCC students in the new Automation Technology program from Russellville and Paris attended the educational and hands-on event.
Students spent the first half of the day touring MAHLE Engine Components USA Facility in Russellville and learning about potential career opportunities in the area.

The second half of the day was spent at Green Bay Packaging in Morrilton. Students listened to the Green Bay Packaging staff talk about their personal career stories and the importance of education. Then they were given a hands-on demonstration using manufacturing equipment.
