Approximately 200 masks produced by members of the Arkansas Tech University Department of Athletics family are helping keep Arkansans safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The majority of the masks were distributed to ATU employees who continue to report to campus on a daily basis in order to ensure the continuity of operations.
One, which was made by Christina Wilbers, wife of ATU head women’s basketball coach Dave Wilbers, was worn by Gov. Asa Hutchinson at the State Capitol in Little Rock on Thursday, April 16. He noted the mask during his daily press briefing concerning the pandemic.
The masks were made by ATU coaches, athletics staff members and their families. Material for the masks was re-purposed from surplus T-shirts.
“The ATU Department of Athletics answered the call when masks were needed for our colleagues who continue to work on campus on a daily basis,” said Dr. Robin E. Bowen, ATU president. “I’m certain there are countless acts of generosity and compassion taking place within the ATU community. The care that we are known for showing toward our students, and each other, will be vitally important as we navigate the challenging times ahead of us.”
