Arkansas Tech University Homecoming 2024 included an ATU Black alumni and student reunion.
Dr. Tennille Lasker-Scott, ATU associate professor of organizational studies and president of the ATU Black Faculty and Staff Organization, said that faculty and staff collaborated with alumni to create three events: the Block Party and Battle of the DJs at Hindsman Tower on Friday, Oct. 11; the ATU Black Student and Alumni Homecoming Tailgate on Saturday, Oct. 12; and Worship Aftermath: Gospel Day Party on Sunday, Oct. 13.
“Tyson Foods Inc. made a major commitment by graciously donating hundreds of pounds of boneless chicken breasts and breaded chicken tenders, from both their Russellville and Dardanelle plants, to feed attendees during the Homecoming tailgate,” said Lasker-Scott. “Student organizations, the ATU Black Student Association, the ATU Minority Mentorship Program, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. were instrumental in promoting and assisting each of the events.
“The weekend culminated with an appreciation of Deidra Dillard, our beloved alumnus and first-generation student experience coordinator, for her tenure at the institution,” continued Lasker-Scott. “We wish her the best as she moves on to new endeavors.”
Lasker-Scott expressed appreciation to Caroline Kitchens, ATU director of alumni relations, and the ATU Black Faculty and Staff Organization for their contributions in planning, promoting and executing the events.
“The committee was encouraged by the participation of current students and is excited for next year’s Homecoming events,” said Lasker-Scott.
