Educators have access to a new certificate in online teaching and a jump start on a master’s degree through the Arkansas Tech University College of Education.
The ATU certificate in online teaching is a 12-hour credential that can be completed in three semesters. It is appropriate for K-12 teachers and college instructors.
According to information provided by the ATU Department of Curriculum and Instruction, students in the program will “design online units with integrated technology tools and multimedia and create a capstone portfolio project consisting of detailed online units and assessment methods.”
The courses that comprise the ATU certificate in online teaching are:
- EDMD 5033 – Introduction to Instructional Technology
- EDMD 5043 – Foundation of Curriculum Design and Evaluation
- EDMD 5053 – Online Course Development with Multimedia
- EDMD 5063 – Advanced Curriculum Design for the Online Classroom
Dr. Theresa Cullen, head of the ATU Department of Curriculum and Instruction, said the credential earned by completing those four courses is stackable toward ATU Master of Education degrees in instructional technology and library media.
“Higher education is moving towards a more skills-based approach,” said Cullen, “meaning that we have opportunities for you to earn new skills and improve your job performance without earning a full, or another, master’s degree.”
