Arkansas Tech University students captured four awards at the 2024 meeting of the Arkansas chapter of the American Fisheries Society, which took place Feb. 21-23 in Texarkana.
The ATU Fisheries and Wildlife Society earned the Arkansas Outstanding Student Subunit Award, while Seth Drake of Hendersonville, N.C., Jimmy Hall of Lavaca and Coley Turner of Green Forest captured individual awards.
Drake was named outstanding student subunit member for the ATU Fisheries and Wildlife Society, Hall won best student poster presentation for a poster entitled “Mussel Communities of Two Impacted Tributaries in the Arkansas South Central Plains Ecoregion” and Turner received the Undergraduate Natural State Fishing Scholarship.
All four awards were bestowed by the Arkansas chapter of the American Fisheries Society.
A total of 11 ATU students presented their research during the meeting. Six were poster presentations and five were oral presentations.
According to information provided by the ATU fisheries and wildlife science program on its web page, the program strives to “prepare a diverse group of students to pursue careers as field or research biologists and provide the sound ecological foundation so they are able to make wise decisions and take prudent actions regarding the management, productivity and sustainability of our fish and wildlife resources.”
ATU offers a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree in fisheries and wildlife science.
