ATU Earns National Recognition for Civic Engagement

2024 All In Most Engaged Campuses Seal

Arkansas Tech University is among 471 colleges and universities recognized for their non-partisan efforts to increase student voting during the 2024 election.

ATU earned the distinction by participating in the All In Campus Democracy Challenge, developing and implementing a civic engagement plan for the 2024 election and having a current signatory to All In’s Higher Education Presidents’ Commitment to Full Student Voter Participation.

The All In Campus Democracy Challenge helps colleges and universities achieve student civic engagement. The All In Campus Democracy Challenge engages 10.8 million students from more than 1,075 institutions in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

“The research is clear: colleges and universities that make intentional efforts to increase non-partisan engagement have higher campus voter registration and voter turnout rates,” said Jennifer Domagal-Goldman, executive director of the All In Campus Democracy Challenge. “This year, we saw more colleges than ever before step up their efforts to ensure that their students were registered. These campuses are setting the standard for non-partisan civic engagement work for colleges and universities across the country.”

ATU hosted weekly voter registration events during the fall 2024 semester and provided a round-trip shuttle from campus to the Russellville polling location on the day of the 2024 election.

ATU’s participation in the program is led by Megan Bell, coordinator of civic and community engagement and leadership development in the ATU Department of Campus Life.

“One aspect of our responsibility as a university is to produce graduates who understand the importance of civic participation,” said Dr. Keegan Nichols, ATU vice president for student affairs. “This recognition is evidence that ATU is meeting that responsibility. I could not be prouder of Megan and everyone else in the ATU Department of Campus Life who contributes to this ongoing effort.”
