Four representatives of the Arkansas Tech University Department of Parks, Recreation and Hospitality Administration earned statewide awards during the 2021 Arkansas Recreation and Parks Association Conference in Hot Springs.
Dr. Cathi McMahan, professor of recreation and park administration at ATU, was named 2021 Arkansas Recreation and Parks Association champion of the year in recognition of her advocacy on behalf of the profession.
Dr. Jay Post, assistant professor of recreation and park administration at ATU, earned the 2021 Arkansas Recreation and Parks Association professional of the year award.
Two ATU students — Caitlin Earl of Dallas, Texas, and Glendon VanSandt of Kansas, Okla. — received Arkansas Recreation and Parks Association scholarships.
Organized in 1964, the Arkansas Recreation and Parks Association is a professional organization for park, recreation and leisure services professionals. According to its website, the organization “strives to provide recreation, park and leisure services professional with an active organization that broadens recreation, park and leisure opportunities for all Arkansas citizens.”
McMahan and Dr. Michael Bradley, associate professor of recreation and park administration at ATU, were elected to the Arkansas Recreation and Parks Association Board of Directors.
In addition, Bradley, McMahan and Post were all selected to make presentations during the conference.
