Arkansas Tech University will host the third annual ATU First Generation Institute during June 2021.
This year, the ATU First Generation Institute will provide students with two ways to participate. The in-person session will take place June 9-10 on the ATU campus in Russellville. There will be a virtual version of the institute June 16-17.
The program will provide high school students who will graduate in 2022 and are seeking to become the first member of their family to attend college with a preview of what it is like to be an Arkansas Tech student.
Specific goals of the ATU First Generation Institute include providing participants with the opportunity to interact with current ATU students, discover academic opportunities, gain a better understanding of life as a college student, learn about ways to finance their education and discover ways to get involved outside the classroom.
Dr. Brett Bruner, dean of student engagement at Arkansas Tech, reported that the 2021 ATU First Generation Institute will focus on the idea of “aspirational capital” and how students can convert their hopes for the future into reality through higher education.
