For two days, Millwood Lake near Ashdown was essentially owned by Arkansas Tech University.
Teams representing the ATU Fishing Club claimed the top six spots in the 2020 Arkansas Collegiate Series Championship Nov. 7-8.
ATU seniors Kory England of Hope and Matt Baker of Glenwood won the state title by reeling in 31.64 pounds of bass over two days.
“The Arkansas Collegiate Series is a fall series, and as seniors it was our last year to compete in that circuit,” said Baker. “We had a great year with not finishing outside the top five in any of the four events, which earned us team of the year. Winning the two-day championship on Millwood Lake was icing on the cake.”
Jade Craft and Baron Meek (2nd, 29.64 pounds), Blake Smith and Ryan Mozisek (3rd, 28.01 pounds), Brandon Mann and Hunter Bryant (4th, 24.5 pounds), Karson Hamilton and Austin Johnston (5th, 22.52 pounds) and Austin Phillips and Jake White (6th, 22.2 pounds) closed out ATU’s ownership of the top six spots in the final standings.
A total of 28 teams representing seven universities and colleges in Arkansas competed in the season-ending championship event.
ATU students Jordan Mungle, Ian Lacy, Cole Lamb, Tristan Weaver, Aaron Johnson, Parker McMahan, Tyler Catlett, Brennen Seymour and Adam Simmons were also among the anglers who took to the waters of Millwood Lake during the tournament.
