Arkansas Tech University students Fletcher Nutt and Dustin Reid are the 2019 champions of the YETI FLW College Fishing event on the Arkansas River presented by Bass Pro Shops.
The duo reeled in the maximum of five bass during the competition on Friday, Sept. 20. Their catch weighed in at 15 pounds, 2 ounces, easily outpacing second-place finish East Texas Baptist University and its five bass weighing 12 pounds, 7 ounces.
Nutt (photographed, left) is a sophomore studying natural resource management at ATU. Reid (photographed, right) is a senior agriculture business major. Both are natives of Sheridan.
“We live about 30 minutes from Little Rock, so the river is pretty much our home water,” said Reid. “It turned out to be a big advantage.”
With the win, the ATU Fishing Club earned a spot in the 2020 FLW College Fishing National Championship. That event is planned for Feb. 26-28 on the Harris Chain of Lakes in Leesburg, Fla.
