Arkansas Tech University presented an ATU flag that flew above Tucker Coliseum for 24 hours earlier this summer to the family of Dr. Jackie Paxton on Thursday, Aug. 15, during a back to school meeting for the ATU College of Education and Health.

Dr. Paxton, professor of curriculum and instruction at ATU, passed away on Thursday, July 11. He was 73.

A noted expert in the field of special education, Dr. Paxton gave 30 years of service on the ATU faculty.

“He was filled with knowledge, but also humility,” said Dr. Tim Carter, dean of the ATU College of Education and Health, in recalling Dr. Paxton. “He was filled with wisdom, but also with laughter. Dr. Paxton was just a good man to know, and we are grateful for all that he did for us and our students.”

Receiving the flag in Dr. Paxton’s memory were his wife, Carolyn Paxton, and their daughters, Alana Hicks and Amanda Stroud.
