Arkansas Tech University will welcome more than 170 high school students and their teacher leaders to campus for the 2024 Educators Rising Regional Conference on Wednesday, Oct. 30.
Dr. Brett Stone, associate dean of the ATU College of Education and Health, will serve as keynote speaker.
Additional speakers will include Dr. Tim Carter, dean of the ATU College of Education and Health, and Dr. Pam Dixon, head of the ATU Department of Teaching and Educational Leadership.
Students representing 15 high schools will learn about public speaking, lesson planning and teacher leadership during breakout sessions. They will also receive a tour of the ATU campus.
While the students are engaged in breakout sessions, their teacher leaders will have the opportunity to attend a session on leadership and an open session intended to foster collaboration.
According to information provided by the organization, Educators Rising is “a career and technical education movement that aims to inspire high school and college students to serve their communities by entering the field of education.”
ATU, the Arkansas Department of Education and the Walton Family Foundation are among the entities engaged in a partnership that seeks to establish more Educators Rising chapters at high schools around the state, update the curriculum for introduction to education classes at high schools and support competitions for potential future teachers.
The conference will be hosted by the ATU College of Education and Health.
