The Arkansas Tech University Department of History and Political Science will host a Constitution Day 2024 observance at Hindsman Tower on Tuesday, Sept. 17.

Members of the ATU community and local dignitaries will participate in a reading of the U.S. Constitution beginning at approximately 12:30 p.m. Free hot dogs and soft drinks will be provided while supplies last. The public is invited to attend.

The U.S. Constitution was adopted by the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, Pa., on Sept. 17, 1787.

In 2004, Sen. Robert Byrd of West Virginia championed a new law that designated Sept. 17 of each year as Constitution Day. Public schools and institutions of higher learning across the United States are required to provide educational programs about the document on Constitution Day.

In addition to the reading of the U.S. Constitution on Tuesday, Sept. 17, volunteers from ATU will teach constitution lessons to students in the Russellville School District as part of ATU’s Constitution Day observance.

Dr. Michael Rogers, professor of political science, and Dr. Jeff Pearson, associate professor of history, provide leadership for the ATU Constitution Day committee.
