Arkansas Tech University retained the members of its freshman class from fall semester to spring semester at the highest rate in institution history this academic year.

Among the 848 first-time, full-time degree-seeking freshman students who enrolled at ATU on the Russellville campus in fall 2024, 741 returned for the spring 2025 semester. That is an 87.4 percent fall-to-spring freshman retention rate, the highest such figure on record in ATU history.

The overall ATU fall-to-spring freshman retention rate for the 2024-25 academic year, which includes students from the Russellville and Ozark campuses, is 86 percent. That is also an institution record in that category.

“Arkansas needs more individuals with post-secondary credentials,” said Dr. Russell Jones, ATU president. “Achieving that goal is essential in improving the standard of living and the career readiness of the workforce in our state. Equipping students with the support and resources they need to persist is at the heart of that goal. This good news concerning our freshman fall-to-spring retention rate is evidence that ATU faculty and staff are doing an outstanding job providing that support and those resources. It is also evidence of the quality and the determination of our students.”
