ATU’s Bradley Named President of Nationwide Society

Arkansas Tech University faculty member Dr. Michael Bradley will serve as 2024-25 national president of the Society of Outdoor Recreation Professionals.

According to information provided by the organization, the Society of Outdoor Recreation Professionals is committed to the empowerment of “individuals and organizations dedicated to outdoor recreation, conservation and related endeavors.” The group was founded in 1983.

“SORP’s commitment to providing access to natural resources for all, while upholding principles of sustainable use, conservation and preservation deeply resonates with me,” said Bradley. “It is an honor and privilege to serve the professionals and organizations that make up this incredible community. This is an exciting time for outdoor recreation and natural resource professions, particularly here in Arkansas.”

Bradley’s goals as president include supporting the ongoing work of SORP’s professional staff and the board of directors, increasing SORP’s international reach and expanding workshops and training sessions for professionals.

A member of the ATU faculty since 2020, Bradley is associate professor of parks, recreation and hospitality administration and head of the ATU Department of Agriculture and Tourism. He served as interim department head for agriculture and tourism during the fall 2023 semester. He was appointed to the position on a permanent basis as of Dec. 1, 2023.

Bradley holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Oklahoma State University, a Master of Science degree from Western Illinois University and a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Oklahoma State University. He has held membership in the Society of Outdoor Recreation Professionals since 2012.
