Thomas Strahan helped run the Arkansas Tech University Homecoming Golf Classic last year. On Friday, he hit the key shot in winning the tournament.
Strahan’s hole out with a sand wedge from 40 yards away gave his team an eagle on the par-4 first hole and propelled them to the title. He and his teammates, Joey Baldwin and Kristian Thompson, fired a 12-under par round of 59 at Russellville Country Club.
Strahan, a former member of the ATU Office of Alumni Relations staff, now works for Simmons Bank. He and Thompson, director of NCAA compliance and game day operations in the ATU Department of Athletics, chose wisely in drafting a newcomer as the third member of their team. Baldwin is the new head men’s and women’s golf coach at Arkansas Tech.
Four teams finished one stroke back with matching scores of 11-under par 60: Justin Wilkins, Matt McCoy and Ed McSpadden; Will Cooper, Scott Daily and Don Daily; Tommy Hindsman, Ritchie Singleton and Shawn Pless; and Michael Kitchens, Colton Dillard and Shea Kirk.
David Rollans, Wyn Norwood and Robert Taylor won the senior division by posting a 58. Abby Davis, Amy Anderson and Alyssia Barton won the second flight with a 63.
Thirty teams competed in the 2022 ATU Homecoming Golf Classic. The annual event helps fund initiatives such as the ATU Alumni Association Scholarship.
