After a one-year absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic, one of Arkansas Tech University’s most enduring summer traditions is returning.
The ATU Department of Music will host band camps for students in ninth grade or younger June 20-24 and for those in ninth grade or older June 27-July 1. Students in ninth grade are eligible to attend either camp or both.
Founded in 1964 by Gene Witherspoon, ATU band camps have provided thousands of young performers with a primer in instrumental music while also serving as an introduction to campus for generations of future Arkansas Tech students.
“It is wonderful to be able to resume our band camps this summer,” said Dr. Daniel A. Belongia, director of bands and professor of music at ATU. “Daily schedule and rehearsal formats will be similar to the past with appropriate COVID-19 precautions in place. Students will have access to residence halls with roommates as usual if they choose. We hope that students and directors will save the dates and start planning for safe, fun and inspiring weeks of camp.”
More information will be published to www.atu.edu/bands/bandcamp as it becomes available.
The ATU Department of Athletics is also planning summer 2021 youth camps, the details of which are posted to www.arkansastechsports.com/camps.
