Southwest Baptist’s baseball team has probably seen quite enough of Arkansas Tech lead-off hitter Matt Johnson.
The junior outfielder from Grand Saline, Texas, was 3-for-5 with three runs scored on Saturday as the Wonder Boys defeated the Southwest Baptist Bearcats 10-2 in a neutral-site game at Emporia, Kan.
Johnson was 9-for-11 with six runs scored and two driven in against the Bearcats over the last two days. He set a school record with six base hits against Southwest Baptisit in a 21-1 Tech win on Friday.
Clint Stroud and Josh Riley were both 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the Wonder Boys on Saturday. Stroud hit his second home run of the season.
Colt Loehrs was 2-for-3 with a run scored and a run driven in, and Dan Higginbotham was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
Tech starting pitcher Michael Alonso held Southwest Baptist to just two runs on seven hits in eight innings. Reliever Dustin Thomas pitiched a scoreless ninth inning for the Wonder Boys.
Arkansas Tech dropped a 15-3 decision to No. 1-ranked Emporia State later in the day.
The Wonder Boys are now 4-3 on the season.
