Five students in the Arkansas Tech University Master of Arts degree program in history have earned the Doris A. Blaisdell Scholarship for the fall 2024 semester.
Sabrina Asous of Van Buren, Trenton Corley of Conway, Anna Hallum of Little Rock, Justin Isbell of Heber Springs and Karla Parker of Hot Springs earned the award with 4.0 grade point averages.
The scholarship namesake and her husband, Lowell, only spent a short time at Arkansas Tech. Lowell taught social sciences on campus in 1955 and 1956 before they re-located to Lubbock, Texas, and joined the Texas Tech University community.
Doris became associate archivist for the Southwest Collection at Texas Tech and served in that role for 27 years, while Lowell taught history at Texas Tech for 33 years. Both received emeritus status following their retirements in 1990.
The Blaisdells never forgot the role that Arkansas Tech played in their story. They left a legacy gift to the ATU Foundation that created an endowed scholarship for the ATU Graduate College and earmarked programmatic funds for the ATU Department of History and Political Science.
