Alysha Daley of Manhattan, Kan., is the recipient of the 2020 Jim Ed McGee Award as the most outstanding graduate student at Arkansas Tech University.
A native of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Daley earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in international and global studies from the University of Nebraska-Kearney.
She enrolled as a graduate student at ATU in 2017 and earned a Master of Science degree in college student personnel in spring 2019.
Daley’s contributions to the ATU community included serving as a resident director in the ATU Department of Residence Life and advising the John Tucker Chapter of the National Residence Hall Honorary.
While at ATU, Daley received the 2019 outstanding graduate student award from the Association of College and University Housing Officers, was named a National Association of Student Personnel Administrators IV-West Rising Star and earned a place on the Who’s Who Among Students at Arkansas Tech University roll for 2019.
Daley is applying the lessons she learned at ATU as a community coordinator for the Kansas State University Department of Housing and Dining Services.
“Within my position, I have the privilege of supervising approximately 30 undergraduate student staff members and a graduate assistant while overseeing a residence hall that houses approximately 400 college women,” said Daley. “Although my day-to-day schedule is constantly changing, the interactions I have with the students I serve and supervise are what drew me into student affairs and are always the most fun and memorable parts of my position.”
Nominees for the Jim Ed McGee Award must have completed their graduate course work with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.75.
The award’s namesake — Dr. Jim Ed McGee — served as vice president for academic affairs at Arkansas Tech from 1973 until the time of his passing in fall 1992.
His service to Arkansas Tech before attaining the rank of vice president included time as associate professor of education, director of institutional research, director of institutional services and director of development and public relations.
