Arkansas Tech University music faculty members Dr. Phoebe Robertson and Dr. Cory Fica will present a joint recital entitled “Toward the Sea: An Evening of Music for Flute and Percussion” on Tuesday, April 8.
The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Witherspoon Auditorium, 407 West Q Street in Russellville. Admission will be free and open to the public.
“This program brings together four works for flute and percussion that are inspired by nature,” wrote Robertson and Fica in the program notes for their joint recital. “From sea to desert to rainforest, we have really enjoyed exploring the soundscapes these composers challenge us to create.”
Pieces scheduled for performance include “Toward the Sea” by Tōru Takemitsu, “Desert Rose” by Jane Stanley, “Beneath the Canopy” by retired ATU music faculty member Philip Parker and “Azul” by Nathan Daughtrey.
Robertson joined the ATU faculty in 2022 and is assistant professor of music. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Ottawa, a Master of Music degree from Carnegie Mellon University and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Manhattan School of Music.
Fica holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of South Carolina, a Master of Music degree from the University of Texas and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Miami. He joined the ATU faculty in 2024 as instructor of music.
