Earth Week Events Begin Monday

Arkansas Tech University’s Campus Environmental Coalition will host several events next week in conjunction with Earth Day. The events are designed to raise awareness about the environment and will take place Monday through Wednesday. On Monday, the Campus Environmental Coalition will host “Take Back the Lawn.”  The event starts at noon on the lawn outside Baz-Tech and will feature outdoor activities including frisbees, guitars and hammocks.  At 1 p.m. a drum circle is planned, and interested participants are encouraged to bring a drum to take part.  Students will also be able to enjoy a yoga class at 2 p.m., which is being offered by Arkansas Tech student Rachel Pennington. Arkansas Tech students will be able to take part in “Bikeapalooza” on Tuesday at noon.  During the event, students will be able to take part in a bicycle part swap on the lawn outside Baz-Tech. Students will gather at 3 p.m. for a bike rally around campus, and those wishing to take part in the rally should meet at the Hindsman Bell Tower. On Wednesday, students will have the opportunity to take part in an environmental awareness fair. The fair starts at noon on the lawn outside Baz-Tech and will feature various university and community organizations.  As part of the fair, students are invited to take part in a campus clothing swap.  In the swap, students may bring items they no longer use to swap for other items.  Clothing remaining at the conclusion of the swap will be donated to area charities. At 3:30 p.m. students will gather for an awareness march.  The march begins at Taco Villa and will end at the train depot downtown.  A rally is taking place from 4-7 p.m. at the depot and will feature several live musical performances and speakers.
