After three tours of the Royal Links Golf Club in Las Vegas Sunday through Tuesday, the margin of victory for Arkansas Tech University came down to a single stroke.
The Wonder Boys won the 2020 University of Missouri-St. Louis Las Vegas Desert Classic with a 54-hole team total of 887. It was one shot better than runner-up Colorado State University-Pueblo, which completed the tournament with a team score of 888. A total of 20 teams competed in the event.
Francois Jacobs (T-6th, 73-75-70-218), Andre Jacobs (T-11th, 79-70-72-221) and Connor Gaunt (T-13th, 72-77-73-222) were Arkansas Tech’s top individual finishers.
ATU’s Kellen Gray (T-41st, 82-71-77-230) and Austin Gean (T-85th, 87-80-73-240) both recovered from difficult opening rounds to contribute to the team victory later in the tournament.
It was the second team tournament victory of 2019-20 for the Wonder Boys, who captured the NCAA Preview at St. Albans Country Club in St. Louis, Mo., Oct. 14-15.
Arkansas Tech will compete in the University of Central Oklahoma Classic at Oak Tree Country Club in Edmond, Okla., March 16-17.
