One of the most significant construction projects in Arkansas Tech University history is officially underway.
Ferguson Student Union, a 68,000-square foot facility that will transform student life at ATU, will soon begin to rise from the plot of land between Chambers Cafeteria and the Hull Physical Education Building. Personnel from Kinco Constructors reported for the first day of construction on Monday, July 8.
Representatives from ATU and Kinco Constructors marked the occasion by gathering for a group photograph. They are (from left-to-right): Robert Condley, ATU construction manager; Drew Dickey, ATU director of facilities management; Dr. Russell Jones, ATU president; Matt Glover, project superintendent for Kinco; Steven Ronza, project coordinator for Kinco; and Scott Smith, senior project manager for Kinco.
Among the amenities Ferguson Student Union will provide are student meeting spaces, lounge spaces for students to enjoy during their free time, fast casual dining, an e-sports gaming lab, basketball courts, a location to check out outdoor recreation gear and workout areas for cardiovascular and strength fitness training.
Ferguson Student Union is named for ATU benefactors Cindi and Jimmy Ferguson and their family.
It is estimated that construction of Ferguson Student Union will be complete in approximately 18 months.
