Logan Genz and Katie Huff were announced as the top senior student-athletes at Arkansas Tech University for the 2015-16 academic year during an end-of-year banquet hosted by the Department of Athletics at Tucker Coliseum on Wednesday night.
Genz, a four-year football letterman from West Fork, received the John Tucker Award as the most outstanding senior male student-athlete. Huff, a four-year volleyball letter winner from Springdale, was presented with the Jeanice Falls Award as the most outstanding senior female student-athlete.
Arkansas Tech head coaches nominate student-athletes for the awards. The selections were made by the Faculty Athletic Committee.
Genz completed his career with an Arkansas Tech and Great American Conference record 480 tackles from his linebacker position. He ranks fourth in NCAA Division II history in career tackles.
A three-time All-Great American Conference honoree, Genz is the only Arkansas Tech football player to ever record 100 or more tackles in four consecutive seasons. He was voted 2015 GAC defensive player of the year, and he was named to the 2015 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-America team. Genz, who helped the Wonder Boys go 9-3 overall and win the C.H.A.M.P.S. Heart of Texas Bowl in 2015, is the 46th Arkansas Tech student-athlete to earn All-America recognition in football.
Huff was part of two regular season GAC championships, two postseason GAC titles and two teams that reached the NCAA Division II Tournament during her Golden Suns career.
A two-time All-GAC selection, Huff appeared in 132 matches, made 1,062 kills and notched 301 blocks at Arkansas Tech.
Huff has served as president of the Arkansas Tech Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and the GAC SAAC.
Steve Mullins, director of athletics, and Dr. Tom DeBlack, professor of history and member of the Faculty Athletic Committee, presented the awards on Wednesday night.
