Arkansas Tech will enter the NCAA Division II Tournament with its highest national ranking in women’s basketball in more than eight years.
The Golden Suns (28-2) are ranked No. 4 in this week’s USA Today/ESPN NCAA Division II top 25 poll, which was released on Tuesday by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.
Arkansas Tech, champion of the Gulf South Conference West Division and the GSC Tournament, has not been ranked this highly in women’s basketball since Feb. 12, 2002. The Golden Suns were also ranked fourth that week.
Next up for Tech is the NCAA Division II South Regional, which it will host beginning Friday at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville.
The women’s South Regional will feature three of the top 10 teams in the country and four of the top 17. Other nationally-ranked teams in the regional field include No. 8 Delta State, No. 10 Fort Valley State and No. 17 Tampa.
