The largest crowd to ever watch a Great American Conference volleyball match witnessed history at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville on Thursday night.
Nationally ninth-ranked Arkansas Tech University completed the first undefeated volleyball regular season in school history by rallying for a 25-21, 19-25, 22-25, 25-18, 15-12 victory over Ouachita Baptist University in front of a crowd of 1,492 fans.
The Golden Suns (32-0 overall, 16-0 GAC) became the first GAC volleyball team in the seven-year history of the league to complete the regular season with an undefeated overall record.
Lexie Johnston made 19 kills for ATU, while Hunter Eshnaur and Tabitha Spray added 14 kills apiece. Tech’s Amanda Milnick notched 53 assists and 15 digs. Madison Nagel had 26 digs for the Golden Suns.
Arkansas Tech will be the No. 1 seed in the GAC Tournament, which will be played Nov. 16-18 at Bank of the Ozarks Arena in Hot Springs. The Golden Suns’ first-round match will begin at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 16.
