Golden Suns Finish T-5th at GAC Meet

Arkansas Tech University earned a share of fifth place in the women’s team standings at the 2015 Great American Conference Cross Country Championships, which took place on Saturday at Monticello.

Mary Simmons was the Golden Suns’ fastest finisher. She took 30th place among a field of 112 runners with a time of 19 minutes, 23.39 seconds.

Tech’s Logan Edwards posted a career-best time of 19:43.77 for a 37th place finish.

Shannon McLaughlin (54th, 20:17.05), Maria Valente (58th, 28:25.59) and Afia Abdus Samad (62nd, 20:41.76), Macy Burroughs (68th, 20:49.85), Megan Bradley (77th, 21:29.53) and Adrianna Simmons (89th, 22:19.98) also competed in Monticello for the Golden Suns.

Harding University won the 2015 GAC women’s cross country title. It was the Lady Bisons’ third consecutive GAC championship and their fourth conference title in the first five years of the Great American Conference. Harding’s Ewa Zaborowska won the individual title with a time of 16:44.75.

Arkansas Tech will run in the NCAA Division II Central Region Championship on Saturday, Nov. 7, at Joplin, Mo.
