Cotton Blossoms Complete Series Sweep

Arkansas-Monticello completed a four-game series sweep of Arkansas Tech by defeating the Golden Suns 6-0 and 6-3 in Great American Conference softball at Blossoms Field in Monticello on Saturday.

Kayla Jackson (19-4) pitched a no-hitter for Arkansas-Monticello in game one. She struck out five and walked five.

Katie Slaughter (9-6) held the Golden Suns without a hit for five innings in game two, but Arkansas Tech’s offense came alive late.

Siarra Gomez delivered a two-run single and Chandler Touchstone drove in a run with a ground out. The Golden Suns pulled within 6-3 with two outs in the seventh and final inning.

Working in a relief role, JacksonĀ recorded a game-ending strikeout for the Cotton Blossoms as they held off Arkansas Tech’s rally. Jackson got her third save of the season.

UAM improved to 28-10 overall and 16-2 in the GAC. The Golden Suns fell to 14-22 overall and 8-14 in league play.

The Golden Suns will host Southwest Baptist for a 3 p.m. non-conference doubleheader at the Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex on Tuesday, April 10.

Both games will be broadcast on KCAB 980 AM.
