Arkansas Tech University remained undefeated in women’s basketball season openers since 2007 with an 86-49 non-conference win over Lane College at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville on Sunday.
The Golden Suns (1-0) jumped out to a 17-1 lead over the first six minutes of the game and remained in control the rest of the afternoon. Tech led 28-7 after one quarter, 44-17 at halftime and 68-31 at the end of three quarters.
Five Suns reached double figures in scoring, led by Cheyenne North and Ke’Vonshaye Stackhouse with 13 points apiece. Jayana Sanders was next with 12 points, while Taylor Ely notched 11 points. Jacie Higgins had 10 points, including a 46-foot buzzer beater at the end of the third quarter.
Lakeiya Lane scored a game-high 16 points for the Lady Dragons (0-1).
Arkansas Tech will begin Great American Conference play with a 5:30 p.m. contest against East Central University at the Kerr Activities Center in Ada, Okla., on Thursday, Nov. 16.
