Arkansas Tech University’s Jalissa Gum was named Great American Conference softball player of the week on Tuesday, March 1.
Gum went 6-for-12 with four runs batted in, 12 runs scored, three doubles and four walks during the Golden Suns’ four-game sweep of defending GAC regular season champion Henderson State University on Friday and Saturday.
The junior from Red Rock, Okla., set the tone for the weekend by striking out 16 Reddie batters as Arkansas Tech’s starting pitcher in game one of the series on Friday.
She limited Henderson State to one run on two hits during a complete-game pitching performance. Gum came back the next day to work two scoreless innings of relief in the third game of the series.
The nationally fifth-ranked Golden Suns (16-1 overall, 8-0 GAC), winners of 14 consecutive games, will visit Southern Nazarene University for a four-game series in Bethany, Okla., on Friday, March 4, and Saturday, March 5.
First pitch is set for 2 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday. Live statistics will be available at www.arkansastechsports.com.
