Arkansas Tech University is mourning the passing of two students.
Carolina Hernandez (photographed, left), 22, died Oct. 2, 2019, in Pope County.
She was a 2015 graduate of Hamburg High School and was a senior graphic design major at ATU. A member of the Dean’s List in spring 2019, Hernandez was active in the Hispanic Student Association and Student Support Services at Arkansas Tech.
A memorial mass is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 2400 S. Main St. in Crossett. A mass of Christian burial is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at Our Lady of the Holy Souls Catholic Church, 1003 N. Tyler St. in Little Rock.
Dylan Gardner (photographed, right), 18, died Oct. 6, 2019, in Little Rock.
A 2019 graduate of Alma High School, Gardner was a member of the ATU Skydiving Club.
A funeral service for Gardner is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at Ocker Memorial Chapel, 700 Jefferson St. in Van Buren.
“Students, faculty and staff are reminded that counselors are available in the Arkansas Tech Health and Wellness Center (479-968-0329) for those who need their services,” said Arkansas Tech President Dr. Robin E. Bowen. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of Carolina and Dylan.”
