Arkansas Tech University student Korey Brooke Heath of Russellville died on Monday, May 29, 2023. She was 22.
Heath was a graduate of Russellville High School, a senior nursing student at ATU and a member of the ATU University Honors program.
She earned multiple Dean’s List awards in recognition of her academic achievement at ATU.
Heath made statewide news in 2014 when she overcame brain cancer to achieve her goal of starting for the Russellville Middle School basketball team. As an Arkansas Tech student, she returned to Russellville Middle School to share her story and serve as a motivational speaker.
Ten years after her initial diagnosis, Heath was diagnosed with brain cancer for a second time in 2022.
“We are deeply saddened to learn of Korey’s passing,” said ATU President Dr. Robin E. Bowen. “The courage, determination and kindness she displayed made her a bright light for many at our university and in the surrounding area. The ATU community expresses its condolences to Korey’s family and friends. We join you in mourning her passing and celebrating her life.”

Visitation will begin at noon on Friday, June 2, at First Baptist Church Russellville, 200 S. Denver Ave.
The funeral service is planned for 1 p.m. Friday, June 2, at First Baptist Church Russellville.
