Jazz vocalist Inga Swearingen will present two performances at Arkansas Tech University this week. Swearingen will appear with the Dave Rogers Trio on Thursday, and she will appear with the Arkansas Tech Jazz Ensemble on Saturday.
Both performances are scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Witherspoon Building Auditorium.
Swearingen was the winner of the inaugural Shure Jazz Voice competition at the 2003 Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. She has also performed at Carnegie Hall, and she frequently performs on the National Public Radio program “A Prairie Home Companion.”
The Dave Rogers Trio is led by Tech graduate and drummer Dave Rogers. Other members include Les Pack on the guitar and Joe Vick on upright bass. Special guest Clay Cooper will join the group on saxophone during Thursday’s performance.
Saturday night’s performance is part of the Arkansas Tech Jazz Invitational. The annual event is designed to provide the Arkansas Tech jazz program and area high school jazz groups with the opportunity to work with prominent jazz artists. This year a jazz ensemble from Dardanelle High School, under the direction of Clay Hooten, will be featured during the program.
The Arkansas Tech Department of Music and the Casey Performance Fund are co-sponsors of the events, and admission is free for both concerts.
