Arkansas Tech University faculty members Dr. Ahmed Elkassabgi and Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim will offer a presentation entitled “Building for Eternity: The Pyramids and Beyond” on Thursday, Oct. 10.
It will begin at 5 p.m. in room 300B at Ross Pendergraft Library and Technology Center, 305 West Q Street in Russellville. Admission will be free and open to the public.
The event is co-sponsored by the ATU Office of International Students and Scholars, the ATU Miller Center for Global Engagement and the River Valley Arts Center.
During their lecture, Elkassabgi and Ibrahim will explore the history of and meaning behind the pyramids constructed in Egypt thousands of years ago.
The lecture will be preceded by a coffee hour from 4-5 p.m. at Pendergraft Library room 300B.
Gabriele Haulmark, ATU director of international education, said the presentation about the pyramids is part of a larger Egypt Day observance.
“Dr. Lynette Gilbert’s art students are doing a service learning project for Egypt Day guests to engage with during the coffee hour, which I am very excited about,” said Haulmark. “She assigned each student to do a display and offer a short activity that participants can engage in to learn more about the pyramids and Egyptian culture.”
