Makris Helps Tech Complete Sweep

Arkansas Tech third baseman Nick Makris was 2-for-2 with a double, a run scored and three runs batted in as the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys defeated the Missouri S&T Miners 7-5 in game two of a doubleheader at Tech Field on Wednesday.

The Wonder Boys (8-4) took a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the second inning on Makris’ RBI single. Tech added a couple of insurance runs in the fifth inning on an RBI double by Makris and a sacrifice fly by Colt Loehrs.

Missouri S&T (2-8) got a run back in the top of the sixth, but the Miners stranded the potential tying run in scoring position when Tech relief pitcher Chad Wynn was able to induce an inning-ending ground out by Brandon Cogan.

Wynn retired Missouri S&T in order in the seventh and final inning to wrap up his first save of the season. He also had a big game at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Tech’s Kendall Cotton was 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Clint Stroud drove in a run and scored a run, while Matt Johnson crossed home plate twice for the Wonder Boys.

Caleb Powers (2-0) was the winning pitcher. He allowed four runs, three of which were earned, on three hits in four innings.
