Arkansas Tech point guard Laithe Massey was named the Gulf South Conference West Division men’s basketball player of the week by the league office in Hoover, Ala., on Wednesday.
Massey, a 6-foot-3 junior from Heber Springs, scored a career-high 23 points and matched his career high with 10 rebounds in a 79-69 win at Henderson State last Thursday.
That personal best for scoring lasted less than 48 hours. Massey poured in a career-high 24 points and he made five assists in the Wonder Boys’ 95-64 rout of Harding on Saturday.
For the week, Massey was 19-of-25 (76 percent) from the field.
Massey is the third Wonder Boy to earn GSC West Division player of the week honors in 2009-10. Senior guards Brandon Friedel (Dec. 9) and Renard Allen (Feb. 10) have also earned that award this season.
Nationally top-ranked Arkansas Tech (23-0 overall, 10-0 Gulf South Conference) will host Ouachita Baptist for a 7:30 p.m. game on Thursday.
Admission to Tucker Coliseum will be free for those with a valid Tech identification card. Ticket offices and doors will open at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
