9:55– The 14 contestants are back on stage. The runner-ups and special awards will be announced momentarily.
9:45– Miss Tech Naomi Shure says it’s been an “incredible year,” and she says the pageant has helped her pay for her college education.
9:40– Miss Tech Naomi Shure is performing for the last time, and she is also giving her farewell. Great job to Miss Tech 2009 Naomi Shure!
9:35– It’s up to the judges now, as all phases of competition are complete. Miss Arkansas is now performing.
9:20– The evening gown competition is underway, and these ladies have some beautiful evening gowns.
9:17– Miss Tech 2009 Naomi Shure is performing again. The evening gown competition is next.
9:15– The Delta Zeta Sorority just presented Dr. Collins with a gift basket for his work on the pageant. Delta Zeta Sorority sponsors the pageant.
9:10– Some of the other queens in the audience include Miss Teen Arkansas USA, Miss Diamond Lakes Outstanding Teen, Miss National Park Outstanding Teen, Miss Lake Dardanelle Outstanding Teen, Miss Diamond Lakes, Miss Western Arkansas and Miss Arkansas High.
9:03– Arkansas Tech Jazz II is performing to start the second half of the show. Only one more phase of competition until a new Miss Tech is crowned.
8:50– All 14 contestants have completed their talent, and it is now intermission.
8:30– Half of the contestants have completed their talent. The Tech contestants have a variety of talents including piano, dance and singing. This really is going to be a tough decision for the judges.
8:11–The talent competition is beginning. Currently, Amanda Collins is performing a comedic monologue.
8:08– Miss Tech 2009 Naomi Shure is singing “Don’t Rain on My Parade.” Naomi will return to the Miss Arkansas stage in July as Miss Lake Dardanelle.
8:06– Dr. Collins has just asked all the parents and grandparents to stand so they can be recognized.
8:03– Russellville native and Miss South Arkansas Lindsey Lee is performing a tap dance routine. Lindsey was a top 10 finalist at Miss Arkansas in 2009.
7:55– The swimsuit competition is over, and now Miss Arkansas Valley and Tech student Hannah Williamson is singing “Arms of an Angel” by Sarah McLaughlin. Hannah won the first preliminary for the 2010 season.
7:50– The swimsuit competion is underway, and it counts for 15% of the total score.
7:45– Miss Arkansas Sarah Slocum is performing “If You Hadn’t, But You Did.” The Witherspoon Auditorium is where Sarah won her first pageant.
7:35– Tonight’s judges are Chris Bahn, Brandy Rhodes Cox, Debbie Alsup, Millicent McDonald and Jackie O’Donnell. Dr. Collins has the audience laughing as he introduces the judges.
7:30– Mrs. Arkansas is talking about her experience as Mrs. Arkansas. Nicole won the Miss Tech title in 2001.
7:25– The final contestant just answered her question. The contestants had a lot of great anwers. Dr. Collins will be introducing the judges next.
7:18– We are moving on to the stage question. These ladies have lots of support tonight in the audience.
7:15– We just met all 14 contestants, and it is going to be a tough decision. Naomi just took the stage with her princess. Special guests being introduced are Mrs. Arkansas 2009 Nicole Hughes Knapp and Miss Arkansas 2009 Sarah Slocum.
7:03– The Arkansas Tech Jazz II is performing an opening number, and the parade of contestants is up next.
7:00– Miss Tech 2009 Naomi Shure is singing the National Anthem.
6:55– The crew just dimmed the house lights to signal the pageant is about to start. In a few hours, there will be a new Miss Tech.
6:40– There are at least two former Miss Tech winners in the audience. Brandy O’Neil Rinke and Leslie Miller Harris are both attending tonight’s pageant.
6:30– It’s 30 minutes until the show begins, and the Witherspoon Auditorium is filling up. The ATU Jazz II is performing tonight, and they have started to warm up. We’ll be back soon with an update.
3:00– The pageant is only four hours away, but for the contestants, that time will fly. This afternoon the contestants have been competing in the interview portion of the competition.
Tonight’s pageant is set to begin at 7 p.m., but ArkansasTechNews.com will be there before competition gets underway to bring you plenty of updates. The cost to attend is $8 for adults, $3 for children or free for those with a valid Tech identification card.
