Arkansas Tech University will enter the NCAA Division II Tournament ranked No. 12 in the USA Today Sports top 25 women’s basketball national poll.
The Golden Suns (26-3) moved up three spots following their run to the Great American Conference Tournament championship last weekend, including a 106-85 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State University in the title game.
Six of the top 19 teams in the poll will be part of the field for the NCAA Division II Tournament Central Regional in Pittsburg, Kan., beginning on Friday, March 11:
- Emporia State University, No. 1 seed in regional, ranked No. 18 in nation
- Pittsburg State University, No. 2 seed in regional, ranked No. 19 in nation
- Missouri Western State University, No. 3 seed in regional, ranked No. 10 in nation
- Winona State University, No. 4 seed in regional, ranked No. 8 in nation
- Fort Hays State University, No. 5 seed in regional, ranked No. 16 in nation
- Arkansas Tech University, No. 6 seed in regional, ranked No. 12 in nation
The University of Sioux Falls, which is the No. 7 seed in the NCAA Division II Tournament Central Regional, and Northern State University, which is the No. 8 seed in the regional, are both among the other teams receiving votes toward the top 25 poll.
The Golden Suns have been ranked in each of the 15 USA Today Sports top 25 polls released by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association during the 2015-16 campaign. The No. 12 ranking this week marks their highest of the season.
Arkansas Tech will face Missouri Western in the first round of the 2016 NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Tournament at 8:30 p.m. Friday at John Lance Arena on the campus of Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kan.
