No. 7 Golden Suns Earn 20th Victory

Nationally seventh-ranked Arkansas Tech shot 56 percent from the field and placed three players in double figures in scoring as the Golden Suns breezed to a 75-53 Gulf South Conference win over the Arkansas-Monticello Cotton Blossoms at Tucker Coliseum on Saturday night.

The Golden Suns (20-1 overall, 7-1 GSC) took the lead for good at the 12:40 mark of the first half. They steadily built their advantage to 43-31 at halftime, and UAM never got closer than that 12-point margin during the second half.

The win clinched the 28th 20-win season in the 33-year history of Tech women’s basketball.

Tech was 30-of-54 from the field, including 12-of-19 (63 percent) in the second half.

Laura Beth Anderson led the Suns with a career-high 18 points, five assists, five steals and four rebounds. Jenny Vining added 17 points and four assists, while Natalia Santos (photographed) notched 16 points and 11 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season.

LaChasity Seale and Erica Williams had 10 points apiece for the Cotton Blossoms (9-11, 3-5).

The Golden Suns will take on the Henderson State Lady Reddies at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Duke Wells Center in Arkadelphia.
